During hot summer months many of us suffer with electric bills that push our already tight budgets to the limit. Running air conditioning to keep our homes cool when temperatures are in the triple digits is very expensive. Obviously we can’t go without air conditioning, it’s simply too hot and uncomfortable without it. But what if you could save yourself some money by raising the temperature on your thermostat a few degrees? By having ceiling fans installed throughout your house you can keep the air circulating and generate a cooling breeze. Although you’ll still need to run your air conditioning, ceiling fans will enable you to raise the thermostat a few degrees and still be comfortable. This is obviously the best of both worlds, a cooler and more comfortable house along with a lower, more affordable electric bill.
Ceiling fans are far less expensive to operate than air conditioning, and have an obvious financial impact by lowering your electric bill. But if you are going to install them anyway why not opt for a design that fits in well with the rest of your home’s decor. There are many different styles of ceiling fans, they come in many different sizes, colors, and many of them even have lighting built into them. Before deciding on which ceiling fans are right for your home you should take into consideration several factors. The first thing you need to consider is your budget. Are you looking for a less expensive ceiling fan, or something that is more of a designer, high end style. Next you need to look at your home and find a style of ceiling fan that fits in well. You should try to find a ceiling fan with a design and colors that complement the room it is going into. Ceiling fans are an economically sound choice that can also add some style to your home.

Moving is not a simple process of just stashing your items in plastic bags and putting them in the truck. If you do so, you’ll simply end up having half of your possessions intact while the rest of your items will likely end up getting damaged during your move. It is for these reasons that when you hire moving companies like Austin Movers, you’ll find that they get into the relocation of your things by making use of packing supplies.

There are many packing supplies that you will find. But the basic of them, as stated by Austin Movers, include the boxes, the bubble-wrap and the packing peanuts. These supplies are special items and you need to get to know the type and the purpose of each.

There are several types of moving boxes available. Their type depends upon the material being used. They can be made from paper, corrugated fiberboard, rigid paper box and wood. For ordinary household items, the use of folding carton made from paper can be used. When it comes to delicate appliances and breakables, you should utilize the corrugated box.

The bubble wrap is used to secure and protect the household items from denting and breaking. This is transparent plastic material which possesses regularly-spaced bubbles that will help cushion any precious possessions or breakable items you’ve got. You will find this thing used to protect glassware, antiques, tech gadgets and fine furnishings.

Finally, there are the packing peanuts. The packing peanuts are simply used as fillers to prevent things from moving inside the boxes. Before, they are used to be made from polystyrene foam but recently the starch-based varieties came out as an eco-friendly alternative.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Typical choices one would have include a bowl of cereal, pancakes or a few slices of toast. But for the Austinites, the residents of Austin, their usual morning meal offers a weird but yummy thing. If you are wondering what they eat for breakfast, it is the breakfast taco.

The breakfast taco is the power booster that the Austinites grab in order to get them going for the day. What they have is a fresh and fluffy tortilla that is filled with anything from eggs, potatoes, shredded cheese, beans and a wide selection of meat such as bacon, chorizo and sausages. These are then served with a siding of salsa.

The breakfast tacos are so favored by the Austinites that these are not only consumed during the morning hours. If you happen to visit the city, you can have this favorite breakfast meal any time of the day. You can sample these delicious and unique offerings as afternoon snacks or even as late night dinner. Their popularity is so immense that you can get breakfast tacos anywhere with so many Austin cafes, restaurants and taco trucks that serve them up.

The love for this breakfast dish may be a simple way of paying tribute to the long history and relationship the city has with Mexico. But being Americans, the Austinites have incorporated their own twist to the typical Mexican taco with the inclusion of what-would-have-been-unlikely ingredients such as eggs and sausages in a classic Mexican favorite. The breakfast tacos may be Mexican-inspired but they are one true energizing and most-loved Austinite breakfast meal.

Austin is the original home of the “Keep ___ Weird” campaign. While Austinites are quick to say Keep Austin Weird, outsiders are left to wonder what really makes the city one. Well, there are many peculiar and unique attractions and sites that can only be found in Austin.

One of the weirdest things they have is the presence of the Museum of the Weird. As the name implies, the museum is filled with weird and disturbing things. It houses live giant lizards, shrunken heads, mummies and a huge collection of freak animals such as the Fiji mermaid, the two-headed chicken, the frog with teeth and many more. This place is located on Austin’s famous Sixth Street.

The bats making a home under the Congress Avenue Bridge are also one of the things that are peculiar to Austin. The flight of hundreds of thousands to a million of Mexican free-tailed bats on the sunsets of summer is something that can only be observed in the Austin’s city skyline.

Another thing that is symbolic of weirdness in Austin is the game Chicken Shit Bingo. This game involves letting loose a chicken in a checkerboard where it is allowed to poop. This attraction started in 2002 and can be seen in Ginny’s Little Longhorn Saloon.

Austin also has one of the wackiest festivals as a parody of spam known as Spamarama. It is an annual competitive cook-off held in the month of March.

Finally, this city has one of the most unique movie theaters. The Alamo Drafthouse has this weird event Alamo’s Weird Wednesday which features cult classics at midnight.

Austin is a great place for vacationing with your loved ones or friends. But before you jump up and grab the first flight to the Live Music Capital of the World, it will do you well to know some facts about this city. Learning a thing or two about Austin will help you perfectly time your first trip to this place.

If you are going to base your trip according to the seasons, you must know that there are no dramatically distinctive seasons in Austin. Winter is cool but there are no snows that fall on the ground. And, the city boasts of 300 sunshine days in a year. If you must come to Austin, pick springtime because not only the weather is good but it is also the time where major festivals are held. Following spring, your next best option is to come during fall.

March is arguably the most popular travel month for Austin because of the South by Southwest festival. October is another perfect month to drop by when Austin City Limits and Austin Film Festival are being celebrated. The mentioned festivals are the largest drawing tens of thousands of people so you best prepare for the heavy traffic and the crowds. If you plan to go during these times, you should make your preparations early on as hotel rooms are quickly booked.

While spring and fall are preferred tourist months, you can choose to go during off-peak summers, too. If the mid-90 degrees temperatures are not a problem to you, you can definitely save some money when you fly during this period. Even if it is off-peak season, this doesn’t mean you will not come to enjoy your stay. There’s still a great mix of natural sights, museums, food, shopping and live bands on Sixth Street that will fill your first Austin trip.

When you go around Austin, you will likely stumble upon T-shirts, mugs, stickers and billboards bearing the words “Keep Austin Weird”. Keep Austin Weird is the unofficial slogan that identifies the city of Austin. Although not sanctioned by the government, this slogan has gained so much popularity in similar fashion as the other famous Austin moniker – “The Live Music Capital of the World”. But where did this slogan came from?

The phrase was believed to be coined by Red Wassenich in 2000. He said he blurted the words out after a fundraising event to an Austin radio station. Later on, the phrase became popular it was printed on bumper stickers. Wassenich went on to operate a website keepaustinweird.com and launched a book entitled Keep Austin Weird: A Guide to the Odd Side of the Town. The slogan, however, was trademarked by Outhouse Designs and the company capitalized on it by marketing T-shirts, mugs and hats.

The term was also adopted by the Austin Independent Business Alliance as its body’s official slogan. The phrase became even more popular when it was used as a campaign slogan by local businesses to fight off bigger and outsider businesses. The local bookstore, BookPeople and the local music store, Waterloo Records protested in 2002 against the arrival and development of bookstore giant, Borders just across their street. Their use of the Keep Austin Weird slogan made their efforts a total success.

This odd city slogan was also adopted by other places like Louisville, KY and Portland, OR. So, don’t be surprised if you encounter “Keep Louisville Weird” or “Keep Portland Weird” slogans. The original, of course, came from Austin.
